Australian surf documentary Bustin Down the Door will be shown at this year's Ocean's Alive benefit.

Volunteer help is needed for an upcoming benefit called Ocean’s Alive.

The annual event, which features an auction, movie night and a day of surf lessons (by donation) at Lawrencetown Beach, benefits the Nova Scotia chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Ocean’s Alive is organized by Ron Betts, a BC resident who owns a place near Cow Bay. However, due to Ron’s work schedule and upcoming wedding, he will be unable to devote the time it takes to put the event together.

In particular, Ron needs help with details such as securing a temporary liquor license, getting a beer sponsor, advertising and promotion, and organizing volunteers. The initial legwork for these tasks is already done to some extent, and Ron would be able direct volunteers as to the process.

Last year, Dacane surf shop owner Lance Moore donated gear for the surf lessons, and the movie and auction took place at the new Nova Scotia Community College campus. Ron believes the campus should be available this year as well.

Ron has already secured an Australian surf documentary called Bustin’ Down the Door for the event. He has also acquired some interesting auction items including “some killer Pipe posters” signed by pro surfer Gerry Lopez.

Volunteers will have the help of an Events Coordinator at Children’s Wish Foundation, who has helped in the past. And the event has also had solid cooperation from the local media (the event has been featured on Breakfast TV).

Anyone interested volunteering or discussing this event further should contact Ron by email or by telephone at (250) 673 8386.
