I wanted to touch base with someone at SANS regarding a benefit I have organized for the past 3 years. It is called Ocean’s Alive and it benefits the NS chapter of the Children’s Wish Association. It consists of an auction/movie night and a day of ‘by donation’ surf lessons at Lawrencetown. My work schedule and upcoming wedding are making it doubtful whether I can devote the time it takes to put it together (I live and work in BC but have a place in the Cow Bay area). The framework of the event is essentially in place, we used the new NSCC campus last year for the movie and auction and I believe it would be available this year as well. I have secured a movie called ‘Bustin’ Down the Doors’ and have already gotten some interesting auction items. Where I would need the help would be on the ground in NS with the details such as securing a temporary liquor licence, getting a beer sponsor, advertising and promotion and organizing volunteers. All of these things are done to some extent and I could direct people as to the process from here. There is also an event Coordinator at Children’s Wish who is a great help and, in the past, Lance Moore has generously donated the gear for the surf lessons from his Lawrencetown location. This event might be a great fit for SANS to continue to promote the surf community in NS in a very positive light. We have had good cooperation from local media and the event has been featured on Breakfast TV. I would love to discuss it further and can be reached at the above email or by telephone at (250) 673 8386. This has been an incredibly fun and rewarding event to organize, I hope we can find a way to enable it to continue.

Your truly,
Ron Betts
